Joseph Stalin Dictator, Murderer...Poet?
Many
thoughts come to mind when one hears the name Stalin. He personified the
evils of communism and was responsible for the the death of up to 60
million people, during his reign of terror.
Stalin, however, had a softer side, in his youth, he was an avid reader of Goethe, Shakespeare and even Walt Whitman -- he fancied himself something of a poet. Recently some of his poetry was unearthed and is now on display at the Library of Congress. Below is an excerpt from one of the poems in the collection of over 60 works being shown until April 29th.

Washington stalker planned wedding for man

Authorities say a Washington state woman planned a wedding for a man that she was obsessed with, and she's been charged with felony stalking, the SeattlePI.com reported.
Madaline Ann Desmet, 64, of Des Moines, Wash., met the man she pursued in 2010 at a church group, the Seattle Times reported, citing a police investigation report. She soon proclaimed her “undying love” and, in the span of about a year, sent the man 57 letters, the report said. Below is an expert from one of the letters:
He repeated that he was not interested in her, but Desmet picked out a wedding ring and reserved a courtroom for their nuptials, the P-I reported. On Feb. 29, she was arrested. She faced a judge, but not one who asked her to say “I do.” This judge placed her in King County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The man Desmet harassed, told us he feared for his life.
“At first I thought she was just little slow, you know. I tried to be nice. I added a ‘thanks but no thanks’ box and gave it back to her, but she just kept sending me these notes. I started to worry when she insisted Hulk would win in a street fight between him and the Rock. The guy is like 75 years old and he was never that great to begin with. The Rock is a legend, I mean come on! She is obviously a few can short of a six pack.”
